Black Fin Bistro

My November review takes place in at the southernmost point in the Continental United States – Key West, Florida. I have been to Key West several times and each or those I marvel at the entertainment value of people watching on Duval Street where it seems like Mardi Gras 365 days a year. This particular time I visited with my wife in celebration of our anniversary, my two sisters and their husbands in celebration of Sister Deb’s fiftieth birthday, and the Marine Corp birthday.

There is no shortage of great restaurants in Key West so the challenge is narrowing the field of options based upon how many meals you plan to consume while there. Breakfast at Croissants De France, lunch at Angelina’s Pizzeria and Dinner at Black Fin Bistro are favorites. Black Fin is my selection for this review. Black Fin Bistro is new to the island and in only being open for one year has acquired a reputation for their varied menu offerings, great service and reasonable prices. Having six in our group allowed us to eat family style and sample quite a few of the menu items. We were not disappointed! Our starters included the Escargots and Mediterranean Mussels. Entrees of the Old Fashioned Burger, Grilled Yellowfin tuna, Grilled Hanger Steak and local Mahi-Mahi were accompanied by a bottle of Auratas Albarino from Portugal.

Key West is fun and the night life is amazing but don’t leave out the history of this storied little island, (Old Town, Maritime Museum, Flagler Station, Mallory Square, and Hemmingway House). Plan at least two nights and a three day stay.

Bill’s Beverage of the

Lagunitas Brewing Company released another great beverage in October of 2009 but until last month was not available in Minnesota. Brown Shugga has a great description on the Lagunitas website: “How Come you Taste So Good?? Boatloads of Pure Brown Sugar in Each Batch, That’s How! The Rich, Roasty and Mysteriously Drinkable Ale might best be described as… Irresponsible. It Leaves a Lot of Stories in its Wake.” Enjoy this one responsibly – it has a 9.8% ABV!
