The 1029 Bar – Smack Shack

Photo from by Annie D.

A corner bar in Northeast Minneapolis with a meat raffle on Fridays, Bingo on Saturdays, and “outstanding food”?!  Man was Triple D right on this one!!  The 1029 Bar at Marshall St NE and across the street from my friends at Graco is one of a kind!  On yet another rainy Saturday this April, Barb and I picked up our daughter Jacqueline and her husband Mike to mutually explore the Smack Shack menu items.  The Smack Shack operates its own food truck in the streets of Minneapolis on Wednesday through Friday and at the 1029 for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.  The menu is by no means extensive but is packed with exceptional foodie options.  The Smack Shack is known for its Lobster Roll, which was out of this world, but the Leg of Lamb Sandwich is out of this universe great. Our order made the waitress smile and the cook stopped by our table to tell us we knew how to eat well.  Following is the feast: Lobster Roll –  chilled lobster with cucumber, tarragon and lemon aioli on griddled milk bread, King Roll – twice as much Lobster as the Lobster Roll, Shrimp Po’ Boy – battered shrimp on a French roll with cucumber, aioli, tomato, onion and greens, Sausage Po’ Boy  –  Leon’s Sausage of Chicago, Andouille Sausage with aioli, tomato, onion and greens, Smack Burger  – 1/2 lb. hand pattied burger with aioli, tomato, onion and greens and one of the finest sammy’s I have ever eaten, Leg of Lamb Sandwich – slow roasted bone in leg of lamb, Harissa, saffron aioli, fennel slaw on a French roll, WOW!

You must check out the 1029 Bar; it’s crowded, loud and fun!

News alert – Smack Shack will be opening its own restaurant this summer on Washington Avenue in the North Loop area of Minneapolis and it will also continue its heritage at the 1029.
