Another patio favorite in this shortened summer of 2013 is Salut Bar Américain. With locations in the ever popular 50th and France area of Edina and Grand Avenue of Saint Paul, Salut and its surrounding shopping venues allows for an afternoon or evening event. Brunch, Lunch, Dinner or Happy Hour at Salut are all wins, and the menu is both extreme and varied, so much so that it’s difficult to select when to dine.
BRUNCH: Crepes, Specials, Benedicts, Eggs and Omelettes highlight the menu which is served on Sundays from 10:00 through 3:00.
LUNCH: My lunch last week at Salut on Grand was as always, pure pleasure. Our selections were one of the best burgers in the Twin Cities, the Cheeseburger Royal and under the “WHY FRENCHWOMEN DON’T GET FAT” (For the proper care and feeding of your supermodel) section, Trio of Mini Salads baby beet, citrus shrimp and chicken salad which daughter Jacqueline chose along with a side of the Steak Tartare and my selection, the Duet of Fish small portions of grilled salmon with citrus and sesame crusted sea bass along with stir fried green beans.
DINNER: The RAW BAR EXCETIONALE, either the Le Grande France Platter or its big brother Le Grande Salut Tower a chilled sampler of oysters, shrimp, lobster, crab legs and mussels. The extreme HOR’S D’OEUVRES section is where you could spend most of the night; my favorites being the hand cut fries, Pomme Frites, served with Bearnaise sauce and named “Best Fries in the Twin Cities” by Mpls/St. Paul Magazine, Crispy Calamari, Blue Crab Cake, Poulet Roti and Buffalo Frog Legs. SALADS the Salut Bleu, ENTREES the classic Duck a l‘orange, SIDES the Macaroni and Cheddar Gratin, EVENING SPECIALS Friday is the Bouillabaise Seafood Stew, SANDWICHES the Croque Madame, and PASTA the Ravioli Au Fromage are also well represented.
FROG BAR HAPPY HOUR: This is the value option at Salut, 3:00 – 6:00 daily and 10:00 – Midnight Friday and Saturday, please work this into your schedule. With Oysters and Crayfish at 2 for $3.00 and a vast array of other offerings priced at $1.00, $3.00, $5.00 and $7.00.
Salut is simply great atmosphere, service, variety and quality, Bon Appétit!
Bill’s Beverage of the Month
In July of 2012 my post was “Summer Road Trip to New Ulm” and within this post I recognized Schell’s Brewing Co. and a new offering of theirs “Shell Shocked”. Shocked did not make a tour to the Twin Cities last year but is now available at local liquor stores. This is a beverage that’s fun to drink, refreshing and well flavored (Grapefruit). Get it now it will not be available for long!
