I recently had the pleasure to dine with a group of great friends at Parella, the key here is the words, “group and dine” which for me says “an abundance of fun food to be shared”.
Parella is located in Uptown’s Calhoun Square the home of Libertine another favorite featured in a 2014 review.
While bar side we selected two large boards of the SALUMI/FORMAGGI each includes 3 meats and 3 cheeses | PRIMA selection of Oven Fired Calamari & Shrimp with fresh cranberry and fava beans, Summer Chicory and a bowl of fresh baked breads. The introduction to Parella is going well, and we gladly accept the Chef’s Table for our group of seven where our server, Joe, strongly advises us to order and dine family style. The order goes something like this: ANTIPASTI White Anchovies with charred long beans, red pepper, oregano | Potted Smoked Eggplant with salted tomato and ciabatta toast, a CRUDO of Dayboat Scallops pepperoncino, lemon, olive oil | Tuna Tartare with shredded fennel pignoli, prosecco gelee, and a PRIMA order of Cast Iron Mussels with Meyer lemon and young garlic butter. Whew, pause for a second… followed by a PASTA of Strozzapreti with sweet sausage, fennel pollen, lemon | Bucatini with lobster, and ginger | SECONDI of Dry Aged Prime Bone-In Grilled Ribeye For Two, (which was more like for four) served with bone marrow, fingerlings, and salsa verde | Brick Pressed Half Chicken with sunflower puree, wilted arugula and sweet garlic (this would be Parella’s signature dish if not for the Minnesota Suckling Pig), served with SIDES of Watermelon and White Peaches, torn basil, almonds and Fingerling Potatoes, with Cippolies and Balsamic vinegar.
We were pleased with all levels of service from the welcoming bartender, our server Joe who was exceptional, and a table side visit from owner/chef Todd Macdonald who kindly shared his Parella story.
Bill’s Beverage of the Month | “Blue Dream”
Notes from the brewery: “A Metamodern IPA conceived of hand selected hops from down under. Malt barley and red wheat combine to create a clean malt backbone with foolproof flavor and mouthfeel to support the main act of Enigma, Vic Secret, Ella, Topaz and Galaxy hops. The hops strum juicy and sweet aromas with headline notes of passion fruit, raspberries, pineapple and citrus. This straight-up strain is Oskar Blues IPA (6.43% ABV). To each their own til we go home.”
