Until LYN65 opened in 2014, Richfield, MN was not particularly known for being a dining destination. As their website proclaims, “Our Principals: Fresh | Independent | Friendliness”, and so it is! My initial introduction was shortly after its opening (thanks Hogie), and recently I had another exceptional experience, this time with family.
At LYN65 you are immediately welcomed and offered a seat at the bar or a table for dining. A word of caution however, this place will get packed even on a Monday so reservations are highly recommended. We were seated at a well positioned 4-top table, last one prior to the booths with a great view of the lengthy bar and open kitchen.
The menu of Dinner/Bar Fare is a minimalist single page that includes a tasting menu offering. As starters we chose the CHICKEN WINGS, served three ways, we selected dry rubbed which were exceptional and MUSSELS, lemongrass, red Serrano peppers and pork broth. We followed with the famed CHICAGO DINER BURGER, single (2 patties) or double (3 patties) served with pickles 2 ways, American cheese, shallot, and fries with add-ons of bacon or a fried egg. As detailed on the menu, this burger is inspired by Au Cheval in Chicago and as a former diner of Au Cheval I can attest to its greatness. In addition to the excellent burger, we ordered the GUANCIALE (Italian bacon from the cheeks of the pig) PIZZA, cream sauce, Brussel sprouts, mozzarella, parmesan, and bourbon maple syrup. And yes get the TASTING MENU ($35!) which includes one item from each section of the left side of the menu, our choices were: CHARCUTERIE , rotating meats, pickles, mustard and toasted bread | SHRIMP AND GRITS, Andouille sausage, tomato gravy, and scallion | SMOKED DUCK, blue cheese fondue, spicy sweet potato maple syrup, and Swiss chard.
One again I was overwhelmed by LYN65, their pleasant service, a well-rounded beer selection, unique craft cocktails, fine spirits, and an abundant wine list, but most of all the food. Check it out, happy hour, dinner, brunch, easy parking, and get the shrimp and grits!!!
Bill’s Beverage of the Month
Translated from Spanish “otra vez” means “again” and you will find yourself wanting to go back to this brew again and otra vez. Notes from the brewery, “On our search for the perfect warm weather beer, we wanted something light bodied and thirst quenching, yet filled with complex and interesting flavors. We stumbled across the fruit of the prickly pear cactus, native to California. This tangy fruit is a great complement to the tart and refreshing traditional gose style beer. Otra Vez combines prickly pear cactus with a hint of grapefruit for a refreshing beer that will have you calling for round after round. Otra Vez!”
